Scars, in particular acne scars, have been the bane of existence for many a grown up teen. This undesirable appearance is compounded when the scarring is worsened by other conditions, such as chicken pox or accidental cuts and wounds to the skin that leave behind unsightly scars. In times past the options were somewhat limited: patients presenting with scars could opt for chemical peels, dermabrasion, and surgery or laser acne scar removal. With respect to the fact that laser acne surgery scar removal makes traditional surgery unnecessary, those who would in the past have hesitated to sign on for the procedure are now able to go ahead and without much hesitation change the way they feel about themselves, the way other perceive them, and also the way they carry themselves.
In particular the surgical approach to scar removal was eyed with apprehension by many considering taking action with respect to their scar tissues. If there was sufficient skin in the area, the surgeon was known to simply cut off the scar tissue and then sew together the healthy skin surrounding it. A great way of treating a small scar brought on by inadequate wound treatment at the time, it is not as feasible in the case of pervasive acne scarring. In the same vein, scar relocation is not a useful possibility when it comes to acne scar removal, unless of course the scars are highly localized, such as on the back or one side of the chest. Skin grafts were another possibility for those who were disfigured facially because of acne scarring but because of the cost associated with this surgery and the fact that an extensive wound would be incurred this procedure was performed only rarely.
With the advent of laser acne scar removal, the idea of non non-invasive scar removal gained wide spread approval and quickly became the method of choice for those wanting to rid themselves of the unsightly skin blemishes. Using a laser, the affected skin will be burned off but the bodily response of heightening the production of collagen under the skin will result in new skin tissues growing that are even and blemish free. If individuals have a very light complexion, a differing form of laser acne scar removal may be employed. Known as the “laser peel” treatment, it mimics the effects of chemical peel but does not put patients into the position of having to deal with the chemically induced side effects, such as allergic reaction.
Even though laser acne scar removal makes surgery unnecessary, the fact that there are serious side effects associated with the procedure calls for complete physician initiated disclosure of all possible side effects. Among those most commonly experienced is the prolonged healing time that makes it more likely for patients to experience sunburns and other such related problems. At the same time, an uneven tanning, pigmentation problems, and also some light streaks defining where the newly grown skin begins may be found. These side effects may be greatly reduced if the patient follows the doctors’ instructions to the letter.
