Methods for Treating Stretch Marks Include Laser Skin Treatments

Pregnancy, weight gain, and even ageing all leave some rather visible signs and markers on the skin of the individual. Is it any surprise that over time your interest for a workable skin treatment will become piqued? Of course not! Perhaps one of the most devastating signs of skin markings that speak of children, weight gain and loss, and life in general are stretch marks. Every spring - bikini season is beckoning – both men and women take critical stock of their outward appearances and many fail to pass muster in front of the big bedroom mirror.

Suddenly the previously ignored spam emails seeking to sell anything from stretch mark removing creams and lotions to laser skin treatments that promise to make quick work of the unsightly markings of body are becoming a hot commodity. To tell the truth, although many claim that their products work well, it has been proven that the only truly effective methods for treating stretch marks include laser skin treatments.

Known to be highly effective, dermabrasion is commonly practiced although it is somewhat uncomfortable for the patient undergoing the procedure. In simplest terms, stretch mark removal via dermabrasion is affected by literally scraping off the uppermost layers of the skin so that the underlying skin – which is fairly devoid of the ravages of superficial stretch marks – will be revealed.  To make the procedure bearable for those undergoing it, the facilitator will be a surgeon who begins by freezing the portion of skin which will be treated. Next, the affected skin is scraped off and by relying on the body’s propensity to heal itself, before long new and healthy looking skin will be visible.

A second method commonly employed for the sake of stretch mark removal is laser vaporization. Unlike dermabrasion, this is a laser skin rejuvenation and removal that relies on the power of the laser itself to remove the skin rather than the skill of the surgeon to scrape off the cells. The advantage of this laser skin treatment relies on the fact that it has the power to affect more layers of skin; the downside that must be disclosed is the need to use a local anesthetic and then apply a surgical dressing to the affected area. Laser vaporization also requires a much more prolonged regeneration period and it is not uncommon to still be sensitive to certain materials for three to six months.

It is of vital importance to remember that no matter which method of stretch mark treatment you choose, there is no guarantee that the results will be everything you had envisioned. For starters, the severity of the stretch marks, your skin tone, the suppleness of your skin, and your willingness to follow your surgeon’s instructions to the last letter all affect the outcome of the treatments. In the same vein, even if all goes well, there is no guarantee that the stretch marks will not return at some point or that you will notice other skin irregularities in the areas you had treated for stretch marks in the first place.
